Selena, a twenty-five year old practicing wiccan, was
handfasted on Beltane, 1999 in a beautiful outdoor ritual led by Sabrae
and Rock. Almost immediately after moving to Athens in May of 1997,
she was introduced to members in the Athens area CUUPS. This inherently
led to a friendship with her Celestial Tides family, with whom she
joined in June of 98. In January 2000 she became an initiated member.
Prior to moving to Athens, Selena was a solitary practitioner of The
Craft, not neccessarily by choice, but rather because other pagans
who shared similar beliefs didn't seem to exist! In addition, she
does not believe in proselytizing and therefore, just waited, knowing
that one day she would be connected with others.
Now, jumping way back in time, Selena was raised in
a Christian home where going to church was not a choice. As many other
pagans can attest, the teachings never made sense. Even as a young
girl she couldn't understand how a faith and religion could be based
on so much fear and hypocricy. Anyhow, she prayed to The Moon, inately
knowing that she was not doomed. Somewhere around age sixteen she
was first introduced to the pendulum, her initial introduction to
a form of tangible Divination. After much practice, her family thought
she was weird and her friends were utterly amazed. Going to church
was not an issue at this point, ironically her mother became a minister
and much more liberal at the same time, not forcing church but rather
personal choice. There was a time where she regreted this, at least
until she realized much later that her daughter was still a good person,
even without a christian label. So at sometime in there (around age
17 or 18) Selena was given her first book on Wicca, and the journey
has never ended.
Currently Selena and her husband are expecting their
first child (early November). This is a very exciting time for them
and they are so looking forward to the times ahead. Her husband is
very supportive and has visited with CT for some Sabbats, rituals
and gatherings, yet remains at his own pace on his spiritual journey.
