Sabrae has been with Celestial Tides since it formed
as a study group in the Fall of 1990 and currently is the High Priestess
of the group. Her leanings to witchcraft go back to third grade when
she got a hold of a small pocket book of witchcraft and magick.
Even though she was doing spells during her elementary school years,
she attended a Methodist church and was part of the youth group. Her
personal revelation occurred in the seventh grade with a church-sponsored
showing of the movie "The Rapture" (the 1970's version). Troubled
by visions of hell and damnation of all "unsaved people" and
the rampant hypocrisy of many church members and other Christians
she knew, she left Christianity for good. She continued to perform
spells for many years, guided by her original book, and read everything
she could find on witches. Unfortunately this was mostly fiction that
had little grounding in reality. The idea of witchcraft as a religion
and the worship of the Goddess was a foreign idea, and so Sabrae pretty
much became an atheist.
While attending college, bits and pieces of Wicca and
witchcraft seemed to keep coming Sabrae's way. It wasn't until she
was married and traveling in San Francisco in 1986 did she run across
a used bookstore (and a book) and finally decide to look into the
religious aspects of Wicca and witchcraft in earnest. A New Age bookstore
near her husband's hometown provided her first real look into the
Neo-Pagan movement. A solitary practice followed until finding
local Pagans and going to her first group ritual on Spring Equinox
1990.
Many Pagan-centered endeavors followed, including stints
as a layout designer for two Pagan chap journals, one with a modest
international circulation, as well as writing articles for Pagan magazines.
She is also a founding member of the local CUUPS group, now known
as the Circle of Gaia Dreaming,
and is still actively involved with them.
Sabrae's most recent spritual work has centered around
dedicating herself as a priestess of Hecate. This work has been very
fulfilling, if not somewhat difficult, but as most know, difficult
work can be the most rewarding.
Sabrae currently teaches at a local high school, sings
and writes music for fun, and shares her home with her husband and
their many animals. She has recently completed graduate school and
received her Master's degree. During the summer she will be found
in her garden or hanging out at the pool!
